Lansdale initially wrote the novel The Nightrunners as Night of the Demons, but was unable to sell it. He eventually took an excerpt, re-wrote it, and sold it (belatedly) as "The God of the Razor" (it was published in Grue #5, in 1987). (Another excerpt became the story "Boys Will Be Boys", but does not include The God.) He also wrote the character into a Batman short story called "Subway Jack".
