Is Bob Gray really a notable citizen of Longview? I mean, yes, I know he's the pastor of Longview Baptist Temple... but is he really a citizen of note in the same sense of the other nationally-known and recognized citizens listed on the same page? --Vengeful Cynic 12:05, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

Agreed. I am glad to see that was deleted. I was on my way to do it myself.

Continued Vanity Vandalism to promote someone named Jared Goza- this person keeps being added to notable citizens as an actor and writer, but a Google search shows only he is a high school student in Longview with nothing to indicate he is 'notable'- conclude this is just vanity vandalism- --Mobilelearn 18:45, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

Note: More vandalism continues to happen here in adding in a former mayor as a 'famous mayor' as well as adding a link to his blog 'longviewpaper.com'. Neither of which should be in this page. Murry Moore was not a 'famous mayor' (actually quit mid term, no major actions during his term) and his blog (longviewpaper.com) is simply a vanity site to complain about the city. I feel if we add his name as a 'famous mayor' we should include every mayor this city has along with their blogs.. --198.133.105.247 17:07, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

Continued vandalism. Someone is replacing links to the Economic Development Co with links to longviewpaper.com blog. --198.133.105.244 16:04, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] City of Longview flag

I have noted in a photo on the city web site that the flag has changed and now includes a hot air balloon in the lower right corner of the city logo on the flag. I haven't been there in over 6 years, so it's not really home any more. Can anyone find further information about the city flag and logo?

[edit] Non-notable "Notable Longviewers"

I've noticed that there is a trend of non-notable nonsense creeping into the list of notable people from Longview. The list below is the batch that I've just removed, none of whom so much as turned up on Google.

  • Jacqueline Shivers, actress and evil genius
  • A Bullet For Pretty Boy, amazing local band
  • M. Baldwin Lewis, screenwriter
  • Carrissa Amberly, Singer
  • Garrett Stone, Popular Black Metal Musician and Stoner

None of the above pass the Wikipedia Test for Notability. This isn't to say that I've gotten all of the non-notable entries, but I think I've made a dent. As always, if someone finds something to suggest that any of my removals are off-point, please feel free to re-include with citations. --Vengeful Cynic (talk) 09:50, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Notables should be Notable

Let's keep the listing of Notable Persons that of truly notable in their field or accomplishments. It does not improve the article on Longview if obscure persons or persons known on a limited regional or state wide level are listed. The listing of Hardy Martel Parkerson is a good example. He may have been born in Longview but actually lived in White Oak until 12, according to his bio.

Most recently after a failed 2007 effort to run for governor of Louisiana (where he lived since high school) he was disbarred. "The Louisiana Supreme Court in December 2007 granted Hardy M. Parkerson’s request for voluntary permanent resignation from the practice of law in lieu of discipline." According to http://www.newshorn.com/forums/viewthread/20032/#201582

Perhaps any article on Mr. Parkerson should be placed on a page for Lake Charles where he has lived and practiced law for the great majority of his life. Longview has many much more notable lawyers which are born, live and practice in Longview or elsewhere and who have accomplished much more than Mr. Parkerson. [edit] Make it Better!

Mar 16, 2008 - Americandude I'm adding alot of photos from the area that I have takin over the years. I was looking at Tyler's page and their page is alot better then Longviews. I will do some more research and try to beef this page up.

Ok I have taken some pictures today of the area and added to the page. I added a few sections and some stats of the area. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Americandude2011 (talkcontribs) 19:51, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] What Makes a Person Notable?

After deleting the listing of Hardy Parkerson from the listing of Longview's "Notable People" and giving my reasons, the name was re-listed. To be fair, if Mr. Parkerson believes himself or if some one who knows him believes him to be a person who has notoriety because of his connection in Longview, I am willing to let the reader decide. I do not dispute that Mr. Parkerson is notable for various reasons. He is known for his poetic ditty's and short rhyming verses. He is also known very well in Louisiana as an attorney where he practiced for some 40 years. He has supporters and admirers as well as detractors he did not go quietly into the night when he resigned the Louisiana bar and retired from the practice of law.

However, since Mr. Parkerson has lived and worked in Lake Charles, Louisiana since before he graduated from high school; and since he has not done anything significant or notable in his life that has been connected to his early years in Longview; and, since he is not recognized or known by any but a very few people in Longview, it is therefore fair to question his listing as a notable person from Longview.

Mr. Parkerson was born in Longview. He lived in White Oak (not Longview) until he was 12, (according to records found on the internet). He moved to Nacogdoches, Texas and at some time moved again to Lake Charles, Louisiana where he graduated from high school. Since then there is little if any record of his interaction with "his home town." As I said before, he needs to be satisfied to be a notable person from Lake Charles and Louisiana.

Therefore, if he is to be listed, and because he is not well known, some background needs to be given. A short bio and the circumstances which led to his resignation and all should be made available to those who read his name in the list. Otherwise he should be satisfied with his legacy in Louisiana, for he has none of note here. Eagle (talk) 05:11, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
