Template:Logo rationale
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[edit] Fair use rationale for [[{{{article}}}]]
This is the current corporate logo belonging to {{{article}}}, used to discuss that company in the article [[{{{article}}}]]. Use of the logo in the article complies with Wikipedia non-free content policy, logo guidelines, and fair use under United States copyright law as follows. The logo is used solely for purposes of identification and critical commentary on a subject of public interest. Because it is a logo there is no free equivalent, and the entire logo must be used to convey the meaning and avoid misrepresenting the company's corporate branding. As a logo it is significant because it helps the reader identify the company, assures the reader that they have reached the right article, and illustrates the company's intended branding message in a way that words alone could not convey. Care was taken to copy the logo in a size and resolution sufficient to maintain the quality intended by the company, without being overly high resolution.
This template is for creating the fair use rationales as required by Wikipedia Non-free content policy and guidelines as they apply to logos. Use it after the {{non-free logo}} template message in the image description part of the image page for an uploaded corporate logo.
This rationale is solely for a company logo that is used for identification purposes in an article about the company. Other uses of corporate logos are not covered by this rationale.
NB: Although the author believes it complies with the policy and guidelines the use of boilerplate rationales is a controversial subject and it has not been sanctioned or approved for such purposes so please use it with caution. Please review the text produced by this template and use it only if you agree it is true. If not, change the data fields as appropriate or hand-write your own justification. A template alone does make an image appropriate to use. It merely helps you state the reasons why you believe it is appropriate.
[edit] Usage
