[edit] History
Founded in 2001 by Morgan Lynch and Joey Dempster, Logoworks has created logos for more than 40,000 customers around the world, making it the world's largest logo design firm.[citation needed] In 2005, Logoworks received $9.3 million in funding from Benchmark Capital.[1] The company has also received venture funding from Highway 12 and Shasta Ventures.[2] Until 2006, Logoworks was operated under privately-held company, Arteis. Arteis manages Logoworks's (and other related companies') graphic designers. In April 2007, Arteis was acquired by Hewlett-Packard.[3]
In 2005, the company came under criticism for posting two apparently plagiarized logos on their site. Criticism from individuals in the blogosphere and on internet forums prompted the company to respond on one such internet forum[4] stating the company takes plagiarism seriously. The two designers who copied logo designs were immediately terminated and the offending logos were removed from the Logoworks website. The company also asserted that neither of the offending logos were sold to or used by their customers.[citation needed] Logoworks also apologized for the mistake and claims to have taken several internal steps to prevent this problem from reoccurring. To date, Logoworks maintains a strict, zero-tolerance policy toward plagiarism of any kind. Despite this response, a few designers have continued to criticize Logoworks business practices.[citation needed]
[edit] Services
The company has been noted for its unique approach to logo design.[citation needed] Logoworks clients are assigned several graphic designers, who offer multiple logo options for the client to choose from. Designers working for the firm are internally rated, which determines the number and type of projects they can work on.[5] Currently, Logoworks employs both internal and freelance designers.
