Lauren Mackevich was born in Redwood City, Ca, on 2/7/89 to Susan and Jeff Mackevich. She grew up in neighboring suburb of San Francisco, Millbrae. As a young child she was described as energetic and outgoing with a mature sense of humor. She was always very aware of things around her and adapted well to situations. While at on vacation as a young girl her mother recalls a story, “We were away for the weekend and the girls wanted to go take a swim. Lauren being Lauren had to have a robe to walk around in because to her that’s what you did at a nice hotel. I took her sister down to the pool while my seven-year-old daughter got on the phone with the concierge and had a warm robe brought to our room. I later found out she had ‘tipped the man for his trouble’. She strutted down to the pool in her two sizes to big terrycloth getup, feeling like a million dollars. An elderly couple asked where she’d got the robe. She explained that not just any one could have one you had to call the front desk and be assertive to have one; it was like a mark to show your authority. They couple than asked if I was her mother and wanted to know her name because she was going to be famous when she grew up.” She was forced to grow up and mature sooner than other due to the death of her father. Jeff Mackevich, at 42, died of ocular melanoma and cancer of the liver. All though it was a struggle she, her younger sister Haley and Mother worked through this difficult time. Lauren was eight years of age. She attended St. Dustan grade school, a catholic school, also in Millbrae. She left in the fifth grade due to an “unholy” situation. She and her Mother agreed that it was unethical for a priest to read allowed each students report card to their class. When her Mother, Susan, called and asked the priest to refrain from doing so, he argued it was his right. He said maybe he would, maybe he wouldn’t. Susan replied that if that was so, he could forget about her children attending his school. Lauren returned only once to retrieve her things and say goodbye to her classmates. She finished her fifth grade education at Meadows elementary school, also in Millbrae. She went on to Taylor Middle School where Lauren took an interest in Cheerleading. This would be an activity that stayed with her for a long time. Being the “go-getter” Lauren was, she was accepted into both the Leadership and Yearbook class at her school. Something that was though to be an accomplishment. She even became a head cheerleader at her school, working very hard and competing in many local competitions. Lauren didn’t just receive an education at Taylor Middle School, she got a life long best friend coincidently named Taylor Meneguzzi. She and Lauren would go on to be best friends their entire life and grow to be closer than family. She went on to spend the next three years at Mills High School. She continued her Cheer career. She also met a teacher who helped her through some hard times. Erica Reinhardt was Lauren’s English teacher. The two became very close. Lauren found her as some one she could confide in and get her through some of the hardest of times. She not only thought Lauren freshmen and junior English, she thought her how to be a better person. She encouraged her to be who she was and express her self. All though she liked Mills, she craved a smaller learning environment, one that wasn’t an over crowded public school. Lauren’s senior year of high school, she transferred to Mid-Pen High School in Menlo Park, Ca. She graduated in 2007. After graduation Lauren was accepted to Marymount College in San Pedro, Ca. She is currently attending Marymount with hopes to transfer to LMU or USC in the fall of 2009. She hoped to move on to grad school and get a degree in business.
Sense an early age, Lauren has been very ambitious. She was the first of all her friends to start working. At age 11, she started to volunteer during winter and summer breaks at Happy Halls daycare center in Millbrae, Ca. She did this until age 15 when she got her first real job at Cold Stone Creamery in Daly City, Ca. She was the youngest candidate and later found out she got the job because of her whit and charm. At her interview they asked each candidate to sing, she did a full rendition of Vanilla Ice’s “Ice Ice Baby”. She stayed with the company for about a year. She resigned from her position to focus on her studies. Another hobby Lauren took up was Ballet. She attended Millbrae Dance Academy in the evenings. When her schedule had slowed down she went on to take on the receptionist/office staff position at her dance school. She also held positions as a sales clerk at Pacific Sun wear in San Bruno, Ca, an administrative assistant at a chiropractors office, a hostess and server at a local upscale restaurant and worked at an upscale boutique in Burlingame, Ca working very closely with the owner as her personal assistant. After Lauren moved to San Pedro for school she took on the position of Hostess at a local Japanese restaurant. In the future she would love a job in marketing or to work with animals. She has expressed much interest in working with children or as a personal assistant while still in school.
Lauren Mackevich is a fun, creative and bright individual. She is focused on school and has a bright future ahead of her. She loves to dance and making people laugh. She is a genuine person and tries to be the best she can be. She was recently quoted saying “I’m not just doing this for me, I’m doing this to make my Dad proud, not only do I want my dreams to come true, and I will make that happen no matter how much work it takes, but I want his dreams to come true also, he just wanted mine to become a reality, so that’s just what I’m going to do.”
