[edit] Smolensk

'Livingston Island' is the official Russian name of the island, not 'Smolensk'. Reference: The authoritative international registry SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica. The Russians in the South Shetland Islands also use in practice the present official Russian names which are those given by the early English and American sealers. The old Russian names given by the imperial expedition of Bellingshausen and Lazarev never became established. All nations in the archipelago use the same names (excepting the Argentines who use '25 de Mayo' for King George Island but that name has not been accepted by other nations).
