[edit] Background
The group started with Sunspot Jonz and Luckyiam.PSC (LuckyIam[1]), who claimed to the name of Mystik Journeymen, in the early 1990s. By 1994, they begun developing a large fan base from hosting Underground Survivors shows (which were in the style of house parties) in East Oakland. Because of these shows, Grouch joined with Mystik Journeymen in 1995 just before they left for their first European tour.
During this time, The Log Cabin Crew (a group from Los Angeles), who consisted of several rappers (including the 3 Melancholy Gypsys (Scarub, MURS and Eligh)) started taking to the scene. The Log Cabin Crew later broke up and three remaining members formed a group called 3 Melancholy Gypsys. The group 3MG eventually met Mystik Journeymen[2] to form Living Legends.
Aesop came from Fresno to Oakland to join Living Legends. Arata and Bicasso[3] (also Living Legends members), are from the Central Coast and Humboldt areas, respectively.
In 1999, Living Legends shifted their focus to Los Angeles but their presence still remains strong in Oakland and throughout the Bay Area. Over the years, Mystic Journeymen and Living Legends have toured through Europe, Japan, Australia, Canada, and the United States numerous times.
In the years since, "the Legends" (a slang term referring to the group) have continued releasing solo and crew projects and now have a catalog of over 50 full-length albums and numerous singles. The group has sold more than 300,000 albums collectively.
New releases are still coming out from this super-group of underground emcees. Increased popularity has been achieved by the group with the more recent releases of "Legendary Music"(2006), and "Classic"(2005).
The Grouch was featured on a tour with Zion I on Riding Shotgun, a TV program on ONLOQ.com.
[edit] Side projects
Members of the collective have released solo and "crew" projects, creating an overall catalog that includes more than 50 full-length albums and numerous singles. The collective has sold over 200,000 albums. Releases independent of the collective have been made by CMA or Cool Man Authority (The Grouch and lucky.iam.psc). Scarub, Murs and Eligh make up 3MG or 3 Melancholy Gypsies. Mystik Journeymen also continue to release albums. G& E consist of The Grouch and Eligh and have released two full length albums "G&E Music Vol. 1 and 2," as well as "No More Greener Grasses."
