Liverpool Echo

The Liverpool Echo is a newspaper published by Trinity Mirror on Merseyside in England. It is published Monday to Saturday, and is Liverpool's evening newspaper while its sister paper, the Liverpool Daily Post, is the morning paper. In the first half of 2007, the Liverpool Echo had a Mon-Sat circulation of just under 110,000 copies.^[1]

Historically the newspaper was published by the Liverpool Daily Post & Echo Ltd.

The editor is Alistair Machray, who has previously edited the Liverpool Daily Post.

In 1879 the Liverpool Echo was published as a cheaper sister paper to the Liverpool Daily Post. From its inception until 1917 the newspaper cost a halfpenny.

The limited company expanded internationally and in 1985 was restricted as Trinity Holdings Plc. The two original newspapers had just previously been re-launched in tabloid format, reflecting the difficult times of high unemployment and social unrest in Liverpool in the early 1980s. In 1999 Trinity merged with Mirror Group Newspapers to become Trinity Mirror, the largest stable of newspapers in the country.

In June 2007 it was announced that the Liverpool Echo had won the naming rights to the new arena in the Albert Dock. It is now known as the Liverpool Echo Arena.^[2]
