Little Fighter 2 (Traditional Chinese: 小朋友齊打交 2) is a fighting game for Windows which is popular in Hong Kong and Taiwan. The game features multiplayer play, which includes versus mode, story mode, battle mode and a championship mode. The gameplay itself is based on its prequel, Little Fighter.

LF2 was created by Marti Wong and Starsky Wong in 1999, and released in a long series of updates; the latest version, 1.9c, was released on August 19, 2005. The game has proven to be very popular thanks to its simple gameplay, replayability, and free availability. The official web site has over 40 million hits and offers an action figure of one of the main characters via mail.

The game supports up to 4 human players on one computer and a total of 8 characters using computer-controlled opponents. Characters are controlled using the keyboard or a gamepad. All keys can be set via a configuration menu.

The game has a commercially-released sequel, Little Fighter Online.

[edit] Gameplay

In Little Fighter 2, characters are moved by pressing the respective left, right, up and down keys. The other controls are attack, jump, and defend. Attacking another person (enemy) makes the person lose HP (health points) represented by a red bar on the display. Most characters also have special attacks (Mana Attacks) that are activated by pressing a certain combination of keys, but require MP (mana points). The blue bar on the display represents how much mana points you have to use. When most of the characters' health is reduced to about 1/3, a blood stain would appear on his mouth, and his mana recovery rate is increased. Occasionally, items drop out of the sky. These items can be picked up by pressing attack over them. All items take damage in combat and eventually break when dropped.

Items:

  • Beer Bottle: greatly restores Mana Points when used
  • Milk Bottle: restores Health Points and some Mana points when used
  • Knife: a flimsy blade that is weak for melee attack, but useful for throwing
  • Baseball: a baseball is a durable ball which is thrown and stuns opponents
  • Boomerang: a weapon which has a limited homing ability when thrown
  • Baseball Bats: a simple melee weapon which has a special feature of knocking baseballs over long distances
  • Scythes: a very powerful melee weapon which can knock an enemy to a ground easily
  • Crates: a heavy weapon that can be lifted and thrown
  • Boulders: similar to the crate, but it is much more durable

[edit] Game modes

  • VS Mode: Human vs. Human/Computer in the setting of your choice
  • Stage Mode: 1-4 players go through each of the 5 stages. You can choose the difficulty and stage at startup
  • Battle Mode: Team-based mode involving two sides with customizable armies
  • Championship Mode: Sets up a tournament to determine a winner. 1-4 players.

[edit] Main Characters

The main characters are the characters who can be selected by default. In online tournaments, only these characters are allowed to be used and any transformation or usage of the unlockable characters is strictly forbidden.

  • Davis

A blue fighter who uses mainly his fists in combat. He is slow and weak against multiple enemies, but has one of the most damaging combos ; typical characters take about 5 combos to take down a 500hp opponent, but Davis only takes 3. His signature move is the Dragon Uppercut.

  • Woody

A dark green fighter. He is a very versatile fighter with many moves and high combo capabilities. His signature move is the Tiger Dash.

  • Firen

A red fighter with flowing yellow hair who manipulates the power of Fire. He is a decent character who can clear large groups of enemies easily. Most players know him for the ability to breathe fire (Inferno) and a fire run ability (Blaze). He is known to be able to fuse with Freeze to become Firzen momentarily when they both have below 33% of health.

  • Freeze

A blue fighter with a white cape who manipulates the power of Ice. He is a very user-friendly and efficient character who can freeze multiple groups of enemies. Most players know him for the ability to summon an ice sword and his punches can turn and deflect most energy projectiles into ice blasts. He is known to be able to fuse with Firen to become Firzen momentarily when they both have below 33% of health.

  • Dennis

A green fighter who mainly uses his feet in combat. He is a very mana efficient character with great combos. He is known for his Spinning Kick and being able to fire a homing energy blast.

  • Louis

A blond armored fighter. He is, as his appearance implies, a slow but rather powerful character, though he has one of the highest jumping ability in the game. He is known to most players by his ability to grab and spin his opponents (Whirlwind Throw), his Thunder Punch attack. He is capable of transforming into LouisEX by breaking out of his armor and using a part of his remaining armor as a trident when he has below 25% health.

  • Henry

An orange archer who uses a bow. He plays on the defensive side, avoiding enemies and using his range to slowly take down opponents. His signature move is the Sonata of Death ; a move in which Henry blows his flute in a melody and lifts nearby enemies and objects from the ground.

  • Rudolf

A blue ninja with long brown hair who uses a pair of swords and shurikens. He is one of the fastest characters. Like Henry, his default attack is, instead of a melee sword attack, throws a shuriken. He is well-known amongst players for being able to turn invisible, duplicate himself and transform into replicas of enemies he has grabbed.

  • John

A spellcaster who holds a staff. He is efficient is survival and has some powerful spells to aid him and a team. What differentiates John from the other characters is the ability to summon a homing Energy Disk and being able to summon an Energy Shield to ward off attacks.

  • Deep

A yellow swordsman wielding a double-edged sword. He has the strongest single-hit damage in the game. His signature move is that of a charge, in which Deep slashes continuously while running forward for a period of time.

[edit] Unlockable Characters

The unlockable characters can be accessed only after entering a secret code. They consist of the ordinary characters and the very powerful boss-class characters. The secret code can be discovered after accomplishing Stage Mode in the difficulty, "Difficult".

  • Bandit

A basic fighter with minimal stats, easily distinguishable with the red bandanna on his head.

  • Hunter

Similar to the Bandit, the Hunter is a very weak character, but he has a bow and arrow which makes him a dangerous foe, though not as effective as Henry.

  • Monk

The monk is a fat, slow character, but is quite durable and powerful. He has a single move known as the Shaolin palm, in which he gets in a stance and then pushes his palm forward, which also causes a minor shockwave.

  • Jan

Jan is the only female of the game. By herself, she is very weak. However, in a team situation, Jan proves a great help or serious threat with her two supportive moves, such as "Angel's Blessing", which summons little angels that heals all allies.

  • Sorcerer

The sorcerer is a spellcaster who uses two basic elemental attacks and an ability shared with John ; the ability to heal a single person. Contrary to his name, he is more durable than the weak Bandit and Hunter.

  • Knight

The Knight is an incredibly slow but powerful giant warrior. He dons thick armor stronger than Louis' that is difficult to penetrate unless fire or ice is used. Alone, the Knight can be easily defeated even by a Bandit due to his poor speed, but against multiple knights is a serious threat because of their heavy armor, which is especially a problem for archers.

  • Jack

Jack is a handsome, decent figher. He has two moves, one shooting an energy ball the signature one being his "Flash Kick", a very swift upward kick.

  • Justin

Justin is an evil, demonic fighter with a mask over his face, using mainly his fists to fight. He is quite similar to Jack, except that he casts a short-ranged energy blast and performs the signature "Wolf Punch", which is a charged punch, which can be followed up a second time.

  • Bat

Bat is a red fighter. As his name implies, he is related to bats, but does not suck blood like a vampire. Instead, he has only three but useful moves: shooting lasers from his eyes, summoning a horde of bats and his speed punch.

  • LouisEX

LouisEX is very fast and powerful trident/spear-wielding character, rivaling Rudolf in speed and Deep in damage per hit. He has only two moves which includes a rapid, singular version of the Phoenix Palm (similar to Shaolin Palm) and the signature "Phoenix Dance", in which LouisEX will swing his weapon around himself, as if dancing. However, despite his limited moves and combos, he is extremely dangerous because of his high speed and damage and long melee attack range.

  • Firzen

Firzen is a yellow fighter with green hair and a white cape ; arguably the most powerful characters in the game. He is the embodiment of fire and ice ; He can fire a continuous stream of energy of fire and ice (but does physical damage, known as the Firzen Cannon), cast fire and ice meteors (Overwhelming Disaster, arguably his most powerful move) and the Arctic Volcano (Firzen charges and causes a violent explosion of fire and ice around himself).

  • Julian

Julian is a giant demon who resembles Justin in appearance. He is supposedly the most powerful character in the game, though it can be argued that it is Firzen instead. He has a defense similar to the Knight, except that fire and ice do not cancel the defense. He also has a large variety of moves which makes him highly versatile. His signature move is the Soul Bomb, in which Julian charges in a purple aura and fires a large, unblockable projectile in a hadouken-like style. The projectile can blast through a line of enemies and eventually explode violently when it takes too much damage.
