[edit] Fair use in Hardboiled
Though subject to copyright, the image linked here is claimed to be used under fair use as:
- it is the cover of the original edition of a historically significant novel by a historically significant author (copyright records indicate that the cover of this original edition as well as the text of the novel was under the author's copyright);
- it is of much lower resolution than the original (copies made from it will be of very inferior quality);
- its use does not infringe on the ability of the copyright holder to sell or promote the novel or image in any way;
- it is being used only for informational purposes; and
- its inclusion in hardboiled adds significantly to the article because it illustrates one of the most famous and seminal examples of the hardboiled novel, by one of the genre's most influential authors, as discussed in the accompanying text.
