[edit] Error in "List of world's tallest dams"
The following is pasted from my "talk" page. JW in TX (talk) 18:29, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
Dear JWinTX, I noticed that you have edited the table. There is an error in the table, but it was too difficult for me to edit that table. So I hope you can make a correction: The Alvaro Obregon dam (number 11 in the table) is missplaced and should be removed. The height is much lower than 260 m (this can be easily verified with Google earth). Height may be about 88 m, which is in the table quoted as the width of the dam. This error also appears in some other places in Wikipedia (e.g. in the German version of the table and in article about Alvaro Obregon). Also I recommend that Rogun is deleted from the top of the table. There are very many places in the world where as high dams as the planned Rogun could be built. The construction of Rogun was in a very early phase when it was abandoned after Soviet Union collapsed. Afterwards a flood viped away what was visible of the construction site. It is easy to verify with Google earth thart almost nothing remains. If the Rogun dam is ever built, the dimensions might differ considerably from those of the original plan. The footnote referring to the Rogun plan could be placed on the row of Nurek dam (number 2 in the table), because Nurek is downstream of the Rogun site. [edit] Add A Section to the Table?
I noticed several of these dams listed aren't even completed and are even in the preconstruction phase, so I suggest adding another headline to the table such as Completed (Yes/No) or maybe Progress (Idea/Completed/Under Construction). I think it would be good because technically I have a concept for the tallest dam in the world and I should be able to put it on this list, it's 80000000m tall. Well not really but you get my point, conceiving and building are two different things just like physically existing and conceptually existing are two separate things.
