Talk:List of sovereign states in 1000

[edit] A question

Can Gaelic Ireland be considered a sovereign unified state during this century. I realize that for most of the eleventh century the four Irish provincial kingdoms had considerable autonomy and the authority of the High King was mearly ceremonial, however Brian Boru as we all know did attempt to rule Ireland as a centralized monarchy during his time as High King (1002-1014) and at the very end of his reign, before his death managed to consolidate his rule over the entire island. The only Irish ruler ever able to do so during the entire course of Irish history. That is at least worthy of notice is it not?
