Talk:List of radio stations in Ontario

Which area/market would Brantford and Caledonia be classified under? I know they seem a bit ar from London and area, but they are fairly close to Kitchener-Waterloo, the Toronto/Hamilton market (western edge), and even the Buffalo/Niagara market...where should the two be classified under? - In the specific case of this list, they should be listed as their own entities. As regards templates, I'd suggest that there should be a specific template for Hamilton-Niagara (Hamilton, Brantford, Caledonia, St. Cats, Niagara Falls, etc.) rather than trying to shoehorn these stations into other markets. - That makes sense. The only problem is that the hamilton stations are lumped in with Toronto's, and all (including the St. Catherines/Niagara Falls/Buffalo Stations are recievable all the way to roughly Barrie (don't ask me how my grandfather's car got the Buffalo stations as he entered Barrie on Highway 400...i was amazed by it, too).
Now, i had a few ideas as well, but i'd like to show what i do NOT recommend: The Toronto radio templates containing these cities:
- Toronto
- Barrie, Ontario
- Oshawa, Ontario
- Mississauga, Ontario
- Burlington, Ontario
- Hamilton, Ontario
- St. Catherines, Ontario
- Niagara Falls, Ontario
- Buffalo, New York
- Fort Erie, Ontario
WAY too many stations and cities! I think the last 2-4 could be merged into their own market...i'm pretty sure Hamilton should be on its own market (like Kitchener and London), or merged into Buffalo like You suggested (Hamilton-Niagara Peninsula-Buffalo).
My recommendations for the Toronto Market are for York, Durham, Toronto, Peel, and Halton Regions. Burlington could go into both Toronto and Hamilton.
Hamilton would contain Hamilton, Brantford (which could also go into Kitchener-Waterloo-Camebridge, since all of its station offices used to be in Camebridge). The Buffalo Radio templates could be upgraded to contain Hamilton as well.
Now, I feel that the templates i've been making for Windsor and London are very nice and clean. Is there a way i could ask whoever finalized the navigation box idea to allow my HTML coding templates as well? RingtailedFox • Talk • Stalk 01:32, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
- I think Hamilton/Niagara should be its own template, not lumped in under Buffalo. In response to the anon, we template stations based on where they're from, not where they're audible, so the fact that you can hear Buffalo stations all the way to Barrie on a clear day doesn't matter. - For what it's worth, part of the reason that radio navboxes are moving toward the {{navbox}} template is because we don't actually want the boxes themselves to contain excessive and unnecessary HTML coding that makes it difficult to edit them correctly — we want them to be as simple and straightforward as possible, and that's accomplished by using an already-formatted template rather than having all the coding information directly in the navbox itself. We also don't want to make it too easy for people to continually change individual templates to their own personal versions of what looks best — all the navboxes should really have as consistent a style as possible, and it's best that that style be defined by community consensus rather than the preferences of individual editors.
- Also, I've moved Hamilton-Niagara to its own market template, and I've added Brantford and Guelph to the Kitchener-Waterloo template. I just wish the K-W/Brantford/Guelph region actually had a specific name of its own, because while it's the most natural and logical grouping from a geographical standpoint, "KW Radio" isn't the ideal name for it, and "East Western Ontario" is just silly. [edit] Call sign question
This list had two different call signs, CJIM-FM and CIWS-FM, listed for a single community radio station in Stouffville. Both were redlinks. Can anybody confirm which is correct? Bearcat (talk) 19:53, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
