Define "professional", please!

Even though english is not my native language, in my opinion professional means that you do something for a living. I would characterize most of the groups listed here as amateurs... --Oddjob se 09:29, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

See Professional. (Just kidding!) The intended meaning of professional in this usage is that the quality of performance is of the highest standard, the product of disciplined practice. The opposite of this sense of professional is unprofessional, not amateur. I'm not sure I would have chosen to use the term myself, but I have to agree that it's appropriate.LeadSongDog 02:23, 29 August 2007 (UTC)
