[edit] Argument 4 in the anti-warez section
This argument is not, strictly speaking, an argument against warez; it is an argument against an argument for warez. (That is, if A is an argument in support of a statement X, and I have an argument B that illustrates a supposed fallacy of argument A, I haven't shown that X is false. I've merely defeated one argument in favor of X. For example, I could say that I need to take a coat when I leave my house today, and my reason for saying that is that it will be windy outside today. You might come along and demonstrate to me that it actually will not be windy outside today. That, however, doesn't necessarily mean I don't need to take a coat with me; there may also be other reasons--good reasons-- why I need to bring a coat with me when I leave my house today.) I'm deleting this argument. Dkostic 16:54, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Reforming this article
Somebody just removed some of the contra-points due to "no references". Since this is true for the pro-points too I guess we should discuss it and maybe add references instead of removing points. I think the person who removed the contra-points came from a discussion in a Swedish Pro-Warez-forum, so we are still discussing there. --Ruben 17:03, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Opinion based
Grated, there are some good points in here, this all seems opinion based and I dunno if thats acceptable for an encyclopeida. This article could turn into a POV problem in the future. -Ghostalker
- Frankly, I don't see much of a justification for this article's existence- at the very least, I'd suggest merging it into the main Warez article. Redeagle688 03:13, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
- POV is always going to come up in this sort of thing. I have long believed that some articles are naturally prone to this sort of stuff. Whilst I believe this issue is important and should be kept, it could do with some citations (although also some of it is a bit common sense). I will admit my opinions are affecting my contributions (I am pro-warez, as I honestly believe all digital info should be freee and its producers paid a fixed amount). Advice: tread lightly. Maybe a few citations would be nice. I will search for these and add them as I find them.211.30.132.2 04:38, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Keep It
This article needs to exist, although it could do with some citations of specific examples illustrating the real-world applicability of each point/counterpoint. In addition to the established warez culture, the disputed nature of intellectual property as a whole is too important to be ignored. Warez should document unlicensed software and other IP, and this article should address the root causes of the phenomenon. The reasons for unlicensed distribution are as economically and politically deep as the unlicensed material itself, and the associated distribution methods, are technologically deep.
