[edit] "from" LA?

What exactly, in the context of this page, does it mean to be "from" Louisiana? For example, Kate Chopin was not born in Louisiana. She did not die in Louisiana. She did not spend the majority of her life in Louisiana. She followed a man to Louisiana and spent 14 years there writing some of the most awkward and weak prose ever set to paper. If not for the efforts of Emily Tothe, and other like-minded cultural studies folk who need something preachy to write their dissertations about, Chopin's "writing" would have remained forgotten.

The biggest connection Chopin has to the state is that she exploited Louisiana for her fame. Is that what it means to be "from" Louisiana? I think the folks up in Missouri hold a claim on her legacy, and I say "let them have her." I did not attempt to edit her name from the list. I'm obviously too biased to make that decision objectively. But seriously, what is the criteria used for claiming someone is "from" a place, and how does that criteria fit Chopin and Louisiana? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.229.157.143 (talk) 20:41, 31 December 2006 (UTC).

In browsing the names of noteworthy folks from Louisiana I noticed a few names missing from the list. Without even thinking about it much I noticed Harold Sylvester - an actor was not mentioned as well as Christian LeBlanc also an actor and Marc Morial, former Mayor of New Orleans was missing too. I'm sure if I thought about it I'd find a lot of folks not mentioned. Thanks
