[edit] Speedy Deletion

Ok, how is a list of military brats, wherein military brats is a studied subculture any less meaningful than a List of famous left-handed people? Or List of Afghans? Or List of notable Eagle Scouts? Or List of Baptists? Or any number of hundreds of "Lists of" that Wikipedia has? Military brats are a defined and researched subgroup of America. The commonalities among military brats has been studied and researched. As for the justification that this is It is a very short article providing little or no context... the other articles cited here are just as short if not shorter and provide little or less context. This is a list of that references the primary article on Military brats.

Per CSD A1: # Very short articles providing little or no context (e.g., "He is a funny man that has created Factory and the Hacienda. And, by the way, his wife is great."). Limited content is not in itself a reason to delete if there is enough context for the article to qualify as a valid stub.

I also noticed that you had "an OR list" as your explaination in the history. First, OR is not justification for Speedy. Second, the list, for the most part is cited with references. There are nearly 40 references on this page--which is better than most lists.Balloonman 05:35, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

List is now at 100%. I've finished looking up everybody on the list... which means that I deleted one or two people as I couldn't find anything about their parents.Balloonman 07:01, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

I can't believe anyone would want to delete such a list. The person who suggested that must have been a political extremist.

By the way-- here are a few more famous military Brats-- General Douglass McCarther, Army Brat (I'm not sure, but I think he was a third generation brat); Newt Gingrich, Army Brat; Marquis de La Fayette (this is the American Revolution 'Lafayette' from France who became a General under George Washington-- although his military father died in battle when he was very young, Lafayette was then raised in the 'Cadet Branch' of his family, which means he was raised military much like many Cossacks are raised military). Lafayette was not only a brave general, but he was instrumental in winning French support for the American Revolution which helped secure the decisive victory at Yorktown. Which means that a military brat played a pivotal role in winning the American Revolution and founding the United States of America!

So far the new documentary, "Brats: Our Journey Home" is spreading quietly and mostly within the brat community-- but at some point I think Donna Musil, the film's creator and director will qualify as a famous military brat.

[edit] Tiger Woods

I've deleted Tiger Woods several times because he wasn't a military brat. His siblings were, but his father retired before he was born. I know you'll see news articles stating that he was a brat, but based on the definition used here, he doesn't qualify.Balloonman 18:19, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Juan Cole

Should the historian Juan Cole be added to this list? See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juan_Cole

Yes, he should be, but we need a stronger reference than a Wikipedia article as support. Wikipedia is not considered a valid reference for other wikipedia articles.Balloonman 14:18, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Correction to famous Military Brats

Michael Stipe is an Army brat, not a Marine brat. His dad was stationed at USAREUR HQ in Heidelberg, Germany and Ft Hood, Texas.

Jackson Browne is an Army brat. Born in Heidelberg Germany when his dad was stationed there with the Army.

[edit] Bob Marley

Bob Marley was just deleted from the list, with the comment "doesn't qualify." The person who deleted him was correct. Marley was apparently born AFTER his father's military career.Balloonman 07:00, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
