I did not separate the multiple entries becasue I do not know the background enough to decide if multiple mad scientists are really involved.--AlainV 04:59, 13 Dec 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Definition?

Can someone post a definition of "mad scientist" on this page? I know there's a whole separate page for it but it would be extremely helpful to have it here, too, so the more-ignorant crowd (like me) who wants to be smart and help with the articles don't accidently put a name that doesn't belong. That said, would Volescue from the Bean Saga by Orson Scott Card count as a "mad scientist"?

[edit] Misleading title!!

Isn't the title of the article misleading?? I think it should be "List of fictional mad scientists" or "List of mad scientists in fiction." --Gurubrahma 16:57, 5 November 2005 (UTC)

The current one works for me, since AFAIK there are no real-world mad scientists, but if others show up with your preference, I'm willing to move it. --David.alex.lamb 02:57, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
By western standards, A.Q. Kahn would probably qualify as a mad scientist. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by DigitalEnthusiast (talkcontribs) 21:50, 8 December 2006 (UTC).
Dr. Tesla almost certainly fits the mold, and in many ways defined it. It was, after all, Edison's desire to discredit him and Westinghouse through film contacts that very much defined a couple of the mad scientists in this section. Edison and Einstein, to a degree as well, depending on your opinion of them. Gattsuru 21:55, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
If you want to say someone IS a real life Mad Scientist, just make a section for them. That should solve the matter. I am assuming you have some in mind, right? I mean, why else would you bother to raise this matter? Corrupt one 03:01, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Mad scientist or Evil genius

I was going through the list to add the "Mad science" category to linked articles where appropriate and discovered that many of these dudes are just regular super-scientists, or evil geniuses, instead of mad scientists. So people need to remove such mistakes from the list -- possibly putting them in other places, such as perhaps a list of evil geniuses. --David.alex.lamb 02:56, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

Moreover, some are "super scientists" -- neither mad nor evil. Examples: Nick Wellington, David/Bruce Banner. --David.alex.lamb 03:57, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Dr. title

Did you notice how a large part of the names listed has a title "Dr."?

Mad scientists get their Ph.D I suppose Cao Wei 19:56, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

Anyone else here read Mad About U, where there is a university for mad scientists? Corrupt one 03:53, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] a couple I can't name

  • I recall a character in the oldest incarnation of Superfriends that Batman referred to as "the eccentric scientist" but I can't recall his name. He worked with, or possibly invented, a computer called the G.E.E.C.
  • The a sequel to the Rampage video game had a buxom female in a lab coat, apparently a mad scientist, but I can't recall her name. --Scottandrewhutchins 03:17, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] star wars scientists

  • I noticed there aren't any mad scientists from star wars listed, such as Galen, or Spinda Caveel from shadows of the empire-evolution #2. Also, I'm not sure Grand admiral thrawn counts, he's more of an evil genius than a mad scientist. Any others?Karonaway 03:58, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] I think Dr. Wallace Breen from Half-Life 2 (the videogame) was not a mad scientist

Can you name one of his characteristics that make him a madman?

I think, he seems to be very sane person. The experiments that he conducted in Black Mesa as an administrator were normal, funded and supervised by government, just very secret.

And his rule of Earth after the alien invasion also lacked not just any insane acts, but also lacked any eccentricities at all. --Diz 05:49, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
