Talk:List of cover versions A-M
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This page is a partial move from list of notable cover versions, which was split up when it became too large to edit safely. See that article for the edit history prior to the move. --HappyDog 14:55, 16 Nov 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Column headers?
Could someone add some column headers? Is the second column the first person to perform the song or the author? Thanks. --fvw* 17:56, 2004 Nov 27 (UTC)
- I added headings to the A table, including one for a notability column. I'll get around to adding them to the other letters, but would appreciate any help while I gradually get it done. Hyacinth 23:39, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Minor edit
Changed "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" - Julie Covington did the original album version and Elaine Paige was the actress in the stage production (and Original Cast album). See the Evita page for more...

[edit] What's the point of this list?
At secondhandsongs.com we're creating a database with information about cover versions. This task is gigantic. Making sure there are no errors is almost impossible. I fail to see how this fits into wikipedia. Letting users insert information makes it full of errors. There is too much information for peer-reviewing. My suggestion is to only give a few very (<20) known cover versions and link to sites that try to be more comprehensive. The list as it is now is too long to use for examples (it even had to be put on a separate page) and too small to be of any use for research.
- Agreed. I came here to find covers of "Angel of the Morning", and you're missing at least half of the information (missing Nina Simone's and Shaggy's versions, and the original songwriter is Chip Taylor, not Merilee Rush - mostly information that's found on this wiki, just not here).
- Wikipedia should not try to replace the entire Interweb, just be an encyclopedic resource for things that are suited to that format. Increasingly, I'm finding that lists are not suited. Nae'blis 14:51:07, 2005-09-08 (UTC)

- Perhaps you could consider other information that could be added to this list that is not on those other websites, or a new way to present the same information rather. Hyacinth 23:24, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Notability
Why are these songs notable? That's the real information this list would provide, and it is missing. Hyacinth 23:24, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
Crazy by Seal is left out
thats been covered by Alanis Morisett and Mushroomhead User:Rakarno
[edit] Britney's covers?
Apparently, Britney has covered "Dirty Money", "Hopelessly Devoted To You", and "Magic". All 3 songs were presumably recorded/performed during the past two years. Where's the source/proof of this? They should be removed, then. --Jw21/PenaltyKillah(discuss•edits) 14:40, 6 October 2007 (UTC)
