Talk:List of Tau Beta Pi chapters

[edit] Links to Chapters
The external links to individual chapters were removed, and I thought I would start a discussion here about why. The original change reasons given were WP:NOT (specifically Wikipedia is Not The Yellow Pages) and WP:EL. I'm not sure I agree with the Yellow Pages part - this is not a directory for services or anything like that but rather a listing of chapters of an organization. I might go with the "mere list" argument, except that would relate to the page itself and not external links from it...
With respect to WP:EL - that's where I think the meat of the argument might be; specifically Important Point #2: "External links should not be used in the body of an article." The flip side of that is in the "What should be linked" part, specifically regarding, "Articles about any organization, person, web site, or other entity should link to the official site if any." This is a list of chapters of an organization and the links were to those chapters' official sites... Thoughts? DukeEGR93 17:54, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
- External links exist to point to sites that contain information not suitable for wikipedia. There are literally thousands upon thousands upon thousands of such links and they shouldn't be removed simply because of that. Cburnett 00:52, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
