[edit] Smash Bros. as a spinoff

I'm not entirely sure that Super Smash Bros. is a spinoff of the Mario series. It's true that the Mario series has the greatest representation in the Smash Bros. games, but isn't that just because of popularity? Super MARIO Bros., Super SMASH Bros. don't any of you see it's an obvious reformation of the name, Super Mario Bros.?! Keep it in the spinoffs section. Mariofan 13:17, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

Not only that but he is considered the main character, the main bosses are mostly from the Mario series, and the Gamepro interview shown that Mario is possibly the main character in the series. Mr. Mario 192 19:30, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

It's listed under both 2006 and TBA. If it's going to be released this year, then it's not TBA. It's it is unknown when it will be released, then it's TBA and the 2006 part is fancruft. Which is it? -- 69.233.222.102 03:51, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

The article says:

Seeing as I just happened across this article again, I think I must disagree with the wording. The focus of this article is supposed to be Mario games by year, not every Mario game that he has appeared in (which is fancruft). If I have no opposition or discussion, I will be removing all non-Mario games from the list. -- Jelly Soup 08:54, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

Should virtual console releases for the wii really be here, it is a VIRTUAL console, and it seems that so many of these games will just be here twice or three times. putting these is redundant, but i will not remove because i don't know if i am alone in this, but i'm putting in my two cents. --72.138.175.46

No they should not be removed, because they are official releases, and they should be treated as the Super Famicom Satellaview, because games that are released for the VIRTUAL console can be "new" in that they may have been previously unreleased. --Rlk89 00:56, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
They are official releases, but they are not new releases, I understand documenting where a game was release and it differs from the previous version in some way, but Nintendo has stated that they are the exact same roms as what appeared on the consoles years ago. If they were different in some way, I would understand the need for new entries. With that said, I would like to suggest a couple possibilities, a general link to the virtual console games list, or, adding a note beside game entries where the game was released for the virtual console in the exact same form as the previous, which would include the year the virtual console version was released, and possibly have it link to the virtual console games list. --FiveIron 06:36, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
They are not new releases, but they are official releases, official releases of a game that includes mario should simply be listed as official releases of a game that includes mario, regardless of new content or not. --Rlk89 23:40, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

This is not a game but an April Fool's joke done Electronic Gaming Monthly. The issue it came out in was the April one. And EGM is known for its April Fools jokes. Heck there is a wikipedia entry on it. I removed it from the list

[edit] WarioWare as a spin-off

I'm not sure about having them. They really seem more like spin-offs of the Wario Land franchise which gets a mention below the list than spin-offs of the Mario franchise. True, there are 9-Volt microgames but they feature more games than just Mario so you could use the same logic to put WarioWare on the Zelda games. Every item in the very long bulleted list says "release" after the area in which is was released. Couldn't we get rid of the word "release" on after item and just have it say say "Super Mario Bros. - North America", or whatever? Useight 06:04, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

A spin-off of something has a completely different continuity than the actual. The actual continuity in the Mario franchise is the Main series. The only game Princess Daisy appears in that has an actual continuity is her debut, Super Mario Land, and she now only appears in spin-offs, including Party and Sports. --PJ Pete

I've earned five lines on level nine of each of the three tetris games on NES and I haven't seen mario, nor do any of the sprites on the ROMs seem to look like him...
