Miscellaneous
Add your artists here. Doesn't matter if they're EBM, industrial, darkwave, aggrotech, futurepop, etc. It's just a template, we need a list first and we'll sort it out when we begin to get a decent amount of names. Don't add old bands unless they're well recognized today. Try to keep the list in alphabetical order. And don't worry if it gets too big...
Any objective criteria for inclusion?
How can we judge whether a given band really is an EBM band? I'm sure most people contributing here will know at least a couple of hundred EBM bands, but there'll always be obscure ones that we may not know whether they are an EBM band or not. But even if some editor does claim to know one way or the other, I think there needs to be some sort of verifiable source of information that should be cited. I don't think citing the band's web page should be sufficient, because obviously a band could call themselves anything they like (though, who except people in to EBM would call themselves an EBM band? :). Unfortunately, until we settle on some verifiability criteria, this list will be original research, and the inclusion of bands here will be purely subjective (ie. based on people's opinions). -- noosphere 19:32, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
Guidelines for inclusion
General
Topical (of current interest/influential)
They must in some way be influential, by preferrably (although not necessarily; a decent amount of people must listen to them these days) having released an album not so long ago. A majority (if that exists) of people on this discussion page must know it (I believe that's a democaratic way of choosing the artist's inclusion). -- Shandris 18:02, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
- What about influential bands that are no longer around? Evils Toy, for example, released their last album in 2000. They're not incredibly influential, but certainly more so than a lot of the bands on here (especially the newer ones). -- noosphere 00:33, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
- "Of current interest" should hopefully denote that, but I'll add it anyway. -- Shandris 18:02, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
Label
A good idea would be by firstly adding artists signed on these big labels as Alpha Matrix and Out of Line. -- Shandris 18:02, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
Albums
Let's go for the 2 album minimum requirement. If an artist doesn't have so many merits, but is included on a known compilation, let's add the band. This is another thing, I'd like to make a couple of articles about V/A Compilations/Samplers (I'll create them later) like Endzeit Bunkertracks, Störsequenz, Machineries of Joy, Awake the Machines, etc. For example, necessary response has only made 4 songs, but are still really good and is included on the Awake the Machines Vol. 5 compilation. Another thing to notice is that a lot (99% let's say) of these artists have their own page at myspace.com, in one way or another, their fame is growing. -- Shandris 18:02, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
- These guidelines are a good start. But unfortunately, they're not binding in any way. If someone wants to add or remove a band we can not stop them by pointing to these guidelines. (Also, it's a good idea to sign your comments, because otherwise it makes them look as if they are official, which these are not.) (fixed) -- noosphere 00:33, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you. Those were only a template. We need to get more additions and some sort of consensus about the guidelines. -- Shandris 18:02, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
Formatting
Country
Why did we not add the country where the artist is from to the name? I think it's an important factor, to show at least how multi-cultural they can be (although Germany and US is predominant). Even if the artist doesn't have a page here on Wikipedia, we could at least supply that information. Laziness, perhaps? -- Shandris 18:05, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
- I agree about adding the countries of origin for these bands, if you happen to know them. It's more important to list the bands even if you don't know where they're from (or don't have the time to find out/note them). Obviously, no one on Wikipedia is lazy, because of WP:AGF and WP:CIVIL :) -- noosphere 00:38, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
Red links
Obviously there will be hundreds of red links, and to prevent a redlinks tag, I chose to not linkify pageless artists, it's ugly seeing all these red names. -- Shandris 18:05, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
- I like red links. It shows people which articles still need to be created. That way if they know something about a band or are interested in creating it they can easily go ahead and do so. And once the bands with red links have articles created for them the red links will automatically turn to blue links without anyone having to edit this article. -- noosphere 00:40, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
- OK, I see your point and I guess I'll acccept it =) -- Shandris 18:48, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
C-Tec
Why was C-Tec removed? They're an EBM band. -- noosphere 00:26, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
- C-Tec is an alias for Cybertec Project --Shandris 17:40, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
-
- Actually they were two bands. Jonathon Sharp was in Cyber Tec, but quit when Marc Heal came onboard and then they changed the name to C-Tec. Anyway, there are albums released under both names, so I think it only makes sense to list them seperately in case a reader has heard of one but not the other. -- noosphere 18:43, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
Stupid List
Completely useless, because any stupid kiddy techno group is listed, they're not really EBM... you should delete it.
Identical to the List of industrial music artists?
The List of EBM artists is almost identical to the List of industrial music artists. That is not really useful to the wikipedia(ns). I suggest that we delete the List of EBM artists. Any problems? --Menorrhea 14:45, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, I'd prefer List of EBM artists be kept, cause List of industrial music artists doesn't only include industrial artists, and EBM is NOT industrial. Use voting before deleting anything. Thanks. Shandristhe azylean 19:45, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

- The problem is that any kind of electronic music group is noted in the "List of EBM artists", the same thing like the "List of industrial music artists". The most important EBM groups are already noted in the EBM article. In my opinion we don't need any techno group, demo band or futurepop band of the great wide world under the title "List of EBM artists", because this lemma is definitely misleading. --Menorrhea 14:15, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

-
- We should merge the List of EBM artists and the List of industrial music artists to a List of electronic and industrial music artists. --Menorrhea 08:21, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
