The following is a list of private equity firms. The ranking was compiled by Private equity international, which reveals that the world's 50 largest private equity direct investment programs have raised a total of US$551 billion since 2002. [1]

The list includes very few venture capital firms which tend to be smaller than their leveraged buyout counterparts.
