Mayor Musa al-Husayni (1918-1920) became leader of the Palestinian national movement from 1922 until 1934.
This is the list of Mayors of Jerusalem in chronological order.
The City Council was established in 1863 during the rule of the Ottoman Empire in Jersualem. During the years 1948-1967 two municipalities operated in the city: the Israeli municipality of Jerusalem provided services to the western neighborhoods of the city and the Jordanian municipality of Amanat Al-Quds to its eastern parts.
