Below is a list of characters for the 1990s BBC British Television sitcom The Brittas Empire. The show aired between 1991-1997.
- Gordon Brittas — Brittas is the protagonist, the tactless and petty manager of Whitbury New Town Leisure centre. Although he cares for his staff and leisure centre, and although he is forever trying to do the right thing, all Brittas ever does is bring chaos and misery into the lives of his staff and wife Helen. This is usually through overcomplicating situations, introducing petty schemes that backfire, or simply saying things that cause offense.
- Helen Brittas — Gordon's long-suffering and neurotic wife who is constantly taking pills and slowly driven insane by her husband's ways. Helen deep down loves Gordon, however most of the time she finds she can't tolerate his annoying persona, resulting in her having affairs with other men.
- Laura Lancing — The Deputy Manager (Dry). Laura is calm and organised, and the only character who understands Brittas. After Brittas's good intentions have led to chaos, Laura is always ready to pick up the pieces and sort things out.
- Colin Wetherby — The Deputy Manager (Wet). Dirty and odorous, Colin has a permanent infected hand, however a good heart. He’s the only member of the staff who looks up to Brittas, and possibly sees him as a role model. Colin regularly calls for Brittas’s help when things begin going wrong in the centre (as they always do), however this usually results in Brittas making things worse. In early series Colin is Gordon's go-to guy, but as the series progresses Gordon becomes more aware of Colin's inadequacies, but still ends up going to the one member of staff whose loyalty, if not his competence, is beyond question.
- Gavin Featherly — Gavin is quiet, calm and shy, but blossoms (somewhat pompously) on his promotion to Acting Senior Deputy Manager in series five. His and boyfriend Tim's relationship is an unstable one, and their relationship also survives as Gavin becomes Tim's superior, post series five.
- Tim Whistler — Usually cheerful, but quite easily reduced to tears and panic attacks. Tim is confident, yet very clingy to Gavin, his partner. Unable to grasp the subtitles of life, Brittas never realises that Gavin and Tim are a couple, yet all the other staff members know and support them.
- Carole Parkinson — The unfortunate and often tearful receptionist. She has a tendency to bring her children to work and keeps them locked inside cupboards and drawers. Gordon always manages to upset her, no matter what the circumstance. In the final series it is revealed Brittas is the unknowing father of her twins.
- Linda Perkins — The liveliest staff member, a young lady with boundless energy and enthusiasm, partnered to a much older man named Edward. She's interested in alternative therapy and animal rights, and has ambitions of joining the clergy.
- Angie — Gordon's first secretary, a young woman who is kind to those in need but mostly contemptuous of "Head Girl". Angie only is in the first series.
- Julie Porter — Angie's replacement and Brittas's secretary for the rest of the series is a sharp-tongued, incurably insubordinate young woman with contacts in the underworld and a serious disinclination to do any work. Julie seems to enjoy herself thoroughly in the chaos of the centre, and she relishing in rebelling against her boss.
