This is a list of episodes in The Bellflower Bunnies, a children's animated series which debuted on the French television network, TF1, on December 24, 2001.[1] A co-production between France's TF1 and several Canadian companies, it is based on the Beechwood Bunny Tales books by Geneviève Huriet, Amélie Sarn and Loïc Jouannigot. TF1 has been involved in the show's production since its premiere, with Valérie Baranski as the series writer; Patricia Robert as producer; Moran Caouissin as director for the first season; and Eric Berthier for the second and third.

The show centres on the adventures and exploits of the Bellflower family, a clan of seven rabbits who live in Beechwood Grove. The two adults in the family, Papa Bramble and Aunt Zinnia, take care of their five children: Periwinkle, Poppy, Mistletoe, Dandelion and Violette. (In the first four English episodes, Violette retains her original French name, Pirouette.[2])

The first four episodes of The Bellflower Bunnies premiered on TF1, then ran on its children's channel TFOU TV (formerly TF! Jeunesse), and has since appeared on France's local Playhouse Disney. The series has also been broadcast on CBC Television in Quebec, KI.KA in Germany, Portugal's RTP in the Azores, and in several other countries. As of June 2008, 52 episodes have been produced, with four episodes airing in the first season, 22 in the second, and 26 in the third.[3][4] The complete series has only aired on KI.KA, where the last fourteen episodes appeared in May 2008.[3][5] In its native France, meanwhile, TF1 has aired just the first 38.[6]

DVD collections of the series have been released by various distributors in France,[7][8] North America,[9] Germany,[10][11] the Netherlands,[12] and South Korea.[13]

[edit] An explanation on titles

All episodes in this list are ordered according to the original French air dates supplied by Institut National de l'Audiovisuel's television and radio archives. From episode #39 onward, German air dates are given instead.

English episode titles, where given, are those found on the Region 1 DVDs by Feature Films for Families and Direct Source Special Products. As of June 2008, only twelve of these episodes have been released in this region.

Only in Germany have titles been given for all 52 episodes, which have aired on KI.KA and ZDF. Original French titles are provided for the first 38.[6]

The first four episodes of The Bellflower Bunnies debuted on TF1 during the week of December 24, 2001, at 7:00 a.m. Central European Time.[1] Moran Caouissin served as director; the music was composed by Valérie Baranski and Daniel Scott.[14]

Production of this season began in autumn 2000,[15] at a cost of €380,000 (C$610,000) per episode.[16] They were made by TF1 and its subsidiaries, Protécréa and Banco Production, along with Montreal's TVA International and Luxembourg's Melusine.[15] Animation work was handled by North Korea's SEK Studio.[14]

In 2004, The Bellflower Bunnies was handled by a new production roster as it expanded into a regular series. While original broadcaster TF1 remained on board, new companies Tooncan, Megafun,[21] Big Cash, Euro Visual,[22] and Hangzhou Flying Dragon Cartoon,[23] along with Disney Television France, joined the production. From this point on, Eric Berthier directed, and Alice Willis composed; Paul Cadieux, Megafun's president,[21] served as co-producer.

The show's second season, which consisted of 22 episodes,[22] was broadcast from September 2004 to February 2005 on TF1's TF! Jeunesse, every Wednesday morning; "Noël chez les Passiflore," a holiday episode, premiered on a Saturday.

Apart from "L'exploit de Tante Zinia" and "En avant la musique," the order of the broadcast episodes differs drastically from the official sequence provided at both INA and AnimezVous.com.[6]

Around 2005, The Bellflower Bunnies resumed production, with a third season consisting of 26 episodes.[4] Starting in April 2007, the first twelve of these aired on TF1, this time on the newly-renamed TFOU TV package.

The 38th episode in the official order, "Le violon du marais," aired in France before #37, "L'expédition glaciale." On KI.KA's list, however, an episode known only in German as "Das Geheimnis von Schloss Meadow" comes at #37, while "L'expédition glaciale" is placed at #39 instead.[3]

The remaining fourteen episodes of this season, and the entire series, aired on KI.KA in May 2008.[5]

Twelve episodes of The Bellflower Bunnies have been released in the United States in six volumes, and by two different companies.

As part of a marketing deal with TVA,[15] the English versions of the four specials were distributed on VHS by the Utah-based Feature Films for Families in 2001; the Region 1 DVD versions came out on October 1, 2003.[58][59]

On April 12, 2005, the Direct Source company released four DVD titles, in association with Filmoption International:[60] Tales,[9] Adventures,[61] Friends,[62] and Holidays.[63] Like their FFF predecessors, these volumes also consisted of two episodes each; this time, the original French audio is provided along with the English dub. On February 21, 2006, Tales and Adventures were reissued together,[64] as were Friends and Holidays.[65]

The first 26 episodes of the series have been released in the franchise's native France, and also in six volumes.

Episodes 1 through 4 were released on Region 2 by TF1 Video on January 23, 2003.[66] From October 2004 to July 2005, TF1, Beez Entertainment and Seven Sept brought out a further five volumes of the show. The first three consisted of four episodes each, and the last two consisted of five. On October 27, 2005, all of these volumes, excluding the very first one from 2003, were packaged into a single box set,[7] which was reissued on October 11, 2006, with a plush doll of Dandelion.[8]

Under the series title De Knuffel Konijntjes, Dutch FilmWorks B.V. released the first four episodes individually in the mid-2000s; all of these were put together in a box set on March 21, 2006.[12] The third volume in this version, "Hoog in de Lucht" ("Balloonatic Bunnies"), came out several months before #2, "Carnaval" ("Carnival").

On February 22, 2008, in time for Easter, edelkids released the first eight episodes of the German-dubbed version in two individual volumes.[10][11][76] This came about as a result of the show's success on local television.[76]

The four specials were released on DVD and VHS by South Korea's C4U Entertainment in February 2005.[13][77] There, they are titled "이사가는 날" ("Room to Move"), "축제는 즐거워" ("Carnival"), "열기구 대소동" ("Balloonatic Bunnies") and "달려라, 썰매야!" ("Slide On").[77]
