[edit] Protagonists/Main Characters
[edit] RJ
RJ is a raccoon, who like all raccoons, is full of tricks and surprises. At first he travels solo, carrying only a golf bag full of various tricks, until he finds a turtle named Verne, and his friends, who are considered family. It is then RJ starts to be a charlatan, tricking Verne and the other animals into gathering the food for him, in which he needs to pay back Vincent the Bear, who threatens to kill him if he does not replace the goodies he stole from him. After his newfound friends are captured by Dwayne the Exterminator, RJ realizes the error of his ways and comes to their rescue and at the end, he becomes part of the family. RJ is played by Bruce Willis.
[edit] Verne
Verne is a turtle, who starts off as the leader of a group of forest animals, who have woken up from hibernation, only to find a large hedge in their territory, and on the other side lays a large suburban town. Verne and the other animals are panicked at first, until RJ shows up and explains what has happened. Other than RJ and Vincent, Verne is the first to encounter humans. The raccoon then tricks all the animals, except Verne, into gathering some food to pay back Vincent the Bear. Verne is mad at RJ, until the raccoon changes his ways, and joins the family. Another running gag is that Verne is mistaken for an amphibian when his species is actually a reptile. He is RJ's best friend. Verne is played by Gary Shandling.
[edit] Hammy
Hammy is a hyperactive squirrel, who becomes very close to RJ, after the raccoon befriends him. Yet despite his quirky personality and lifestyle, his friends are surprisingly extremely tolerant of it. Hammy is the most dim-witted of the group, but he is very kind-hearted. Hammy's hyperactivity is further escalated by drinking a caffeinated beverage. He is also RJ's best friend along with Verne. Hammy is played by Steve Carell.
[edit] Stella
Stella is a very moody skunk whose answer to nearly every sort of problem is to discharge her stink glands. At the encounter with the hedge, Verne fell into the hedge (which was referred to as Steve) she threatened to spray Steve as if he were human. Part of her moodiness is due to low self-image, due to her species, but all that changes when she meets Tiger the Persian. Stella is assigned to flirt with Tiger to distract him while the others raid Gladys' house. To do so, they have to disguise her as a cat. At first Tiger is mad at Stella for intruding, and tries to get rid of her by acting snobby and blowing her off. Stella finally loses her cool and angrily explains how tired she is of being judged by her species. First angry at her by talking to him like that, then impressed by her attitude, Tiger falls for the ruse. It is not long before they fall in love. When Stella fills the house with skunk smell, she is surprised to find that Tiger isn't bothered by the smell. Tiger explains that he can't smell due to his facial figures. It is then that Stella realizes she has found her true love. In the end, she becomes partners with Tiger. Stella is played by Wanda Sykes.
[edit] Ozzie and Heather
Ozzie and Heather are the opossums that appear in the film. Like many teenagers, Heather loves her father dearly, but gets embarrassed by him when he plays dead. Ozzie is a kind and devoted father. He sees "playing possum" (a defense mechanism that real possums have) as a must, and tries to teach it to his daughter. It later helps the young possum in her life. Heather first shows her father the 'Play Dead' position when she was kicked hard by Gladys Sharp on the staircase whilst checking on the human, when Ozzie first thought his daughter was actually dead. Ozzie is played by William Shatner, while Heather is played by Avril Lavigne.
[edit] Penny, Lou and the kids
Penny and Lou are a pair of porcupines who have Minnesotan accents ("Oh, gosh", "You betcha!"), who have porcupine triplets, Bucky, Quillo and Spike. The kids see RJ as an uncle to them, and spend their time doing various activities with him, such as playing video games, especially "Auto Homicide 3," which seems to be a parody of Grand Theft Auto. Penny is played by Catherine O'Hara, while Lou is played by Eugene Levy. Bucky, Quillo, and Spike's voices are provided by Sami Kirkpatrick, Madison Davenport, and Shane Baumel, respectively.
[edit] Antagonists/Minor Characters
[edit] Vincent
Vincent is a bear, who threatens to kill RJ, if he does not return all the goods he stole from him, before the next full moon. Vincent lives alone in a rocky cave above a highway and stocks up on junk food, to prepare himself for winter. It is implied, although never stated, that he and RJ have had some sort of relationship prior to the movie. In the film, He is voiced by Nick Nolte, while Vincent also makes a cameo in the courtroom sequence in Bee Movie as well as appearing in the second teaser trailer.
[edit] Gladys Sharp
Gladys is a woman, who is in charge of the Home Owner's Association. She has an extremely bad attitude towards RJ and the other animals, and hires Dwayne LaFontaine, the 'Verminator', to exterminate them. Only because she is the president of the Home Owner's Association, Gladys thinks she can rule anything. She is selfish, obsessive with cleaning, doesn't have any respect for animals or other people and is extremely homicidal. She is played by Allison Janney.
[edit] Dwayne LaFontaine
Dwayne is a man, who is a top student at Verm-Tech Institute. He is a supremely self-confident braggart, despite having a massive gut and having thin, balding hair that he combs over. He drives a truck that is loaded with the latest in animal tracking and exterminating technology. When Gladys fights the cops at the end, Dwayne climbs over a fence, hits a sqeauky toy and Nugent, a rottweiler bites Dwayne painfully. Dwayne is the main antagonist of the flim and is played by Thomas Haden Church.

He ends up being the perfect romantic partner for Stella, since he has no sense of smell. Tiger is played by Omid Djalili. When his owner went to jail he decides to live with Stella and the rest of the family. is a lezi
[edit] Nugent
Nugent is a rottweiler dog whose owner is unknown, as far as the film goes. He is seen in one scene, chasing RJ and Verne through various people's yards, and is heard (but not seen) biting Dwayne. In the scene when RJ and Verne are falling, Nuget is seen in a yard running around in cotinuous circles. His barks are the word "Play!" in various forms of expression. His name is probably a reference to rock star Ted Nugent. He is played by Brian Stepanek.
[edit] Debbie
Debbie is the local resident of suburban peace who thought she had run over Ozzie. She has three children. R.J and the others stole her brand new cooler of the top of her car.
