The eight season of the television series Lassie began airing on CBS in the United States on September 10, 1961 and contained 25 episodes.
[edit] Production
In the eight season, the producers of Lassie decided to create their first multi-episode story arc. A modernized retelling of Eric Knight's 1940 novel Lassie Come-Home, the three episode arc "The Odyssey" ss regarded by fans and critics alike as some of of the best Lassie episodes. Unlike the rest of the season, "The Odyssey" uses little of the series regular music, instead turning to new compositions and re-using some themes from the original first four seasons.
