The anime series was produced by Studio Deen and aired across Japan on NHK and the anime television network, Animax. It is licensed and distributed across North America by Geneon Entertainment under the title, Kyo Kara Maoh! - God (?) Save Our King! Two seasons have been produced, from episode 1-78.

Season 1 starts out with Yuri Shibuya, a high school student and baseball player. One day, he interrupts bullies picking on his friend, Ken Murata, and is forced into the toilet bowl. He somehow ends up in a mystical place called Shin Makoku and is declared the Maoh (Demon King). The season focuses on Yuri's learning of Shin Makoku and adapting to his life as the Maoh and bringer of justice.

Season 2 prominetely features the search for the "Four Forbidden Boxes" and the aspects of trusting people. Yuri is faced with Conrad's betrayal, search for the boxes, and the overprotectiveness of his brother.

Close to the season finale, it is discovered that the Original King was possessed by the Soushu, and purposely ordered the search for the boxes to reincarnate himself. Yuri faces a battle which could kill him, but is determined to do so because the consequences of losing his friends is greater.

Kyo Kara Maoh! season three began airing in Japan on April 3rd.[1]

The manga is currently serialized in ASUKA, a monthly manga magazine. Its production started in July 2005. Volume 3 is available as of April 26, 2007.

Volume 1 = 2005/12/22.
Volume 2 = 2006/7/21.
Volume 3 = 2007/4/26.
Volume 4 = 2007/12/26

The English language version of the manga has been licensed by TOKYOPOP, and Volume 1 is currently in production. It is expected to be released in the third quarter of 2008.[2]
