List of British amphibians

There are seven native species of British amphibians. In addition, there are a number of naturalized species. The natives comprise three newts, two toads and two frogs.

  • Pool Frog (Rana lessonae) — there is some disagreement among specialists on whether this species is native

  • Painted Frog (Discoglossus pictus) — has bred at least once
  • European Tree Frog (Hyla arborea)
  • Australian Tree Frog — has bred at least once
  • Marsh Frog (Rana ridibunda) (naturalized)
  • Edible Frog (Rana esculenta) (naturalized)
  • American Bullfrog (Rana catesbeiana) — not established
  • African Clawed Frog (Toad) (Xenopus)
