Lisa Sigal

Lisa Sigal (born 1962, Philadelphia) is a contemporary artist who lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. She works in painting, sculpture, and collage.

Of her abstract paintings of the 1990's and early 2000's, Sigal has said, "I've been influenced by the gestures of abstract expressionism, the excitement and devotion of Indian miniatures, and the expansiveness and precision of children's drawings." [1] These works typically consisted of areas of dense detail balanced against shapes of flat color. A 2001 exhibition at Frederieke Taylor Gallery included paintings on small to medium-sized panels, as well as an expansive mural that spanned the largest wall of the gallery. In the early 2000's, Sigal began making sculptural assemblages using construction materials such as drywall, wood, and window screens, which are then painted over.

She exhibited at P.S. 1 in 2007/8[2] and participated in the 2008 Whitney Biennial.[3]
