Česky: fosfolipidové molekuly, se svými vodoodpudivými (lipidickými) částmi, které jsou tu znázorněny světle, sdružují směrem k sobě. Postupně se tím vytvoří rovinný útvar, dávající vznik membráně. Na jejím povrchu, obrácené do vody, jsou fosfátové části molekuly, a ostatní hydrofiní části molekul, které jsou na obrázku naznačeny živými barvami.
