[edit] External links

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that exist to attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policies for further explanations of links that are considered appropriate. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. I don't see them either personal or promotional, these are intellectual, and in order to have a healthy article we need to have all relevent information. What I have noticed on Shia related articles is that they are totally biased and present neo-shia doctrine. I don't see it appropriate per wiki standards and this could potentiall raise POV issue. I am fully aware of wikipedia policies and is certaily not spamming to promote my agenda. Thanks --Linxengine 04:48, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
While you are encouraged to contribute to Wikipedia, simply adding links to the same website across multiple pages is generally discouraged. The reason is because, that's not how Wikipedia grows. It grows when content (rather than external links) is added to articles. For example, if you want to improve an article, try adding information rather than linking to your website. Secondly, we don't want Wikipedia to turn into some directory of external links. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and it's considered inappropriate to use it a platform for self-promotion. If you want to fix POV problems, spamming a certain website is not the solution. Try adding text to the article. Regards, Khoikhoi 05:01, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
I don't see any problem adding same link to relevent sites if they are 'relevent'. If they are irrelevent, yes I disagree to it. Secondly, I can't be accused of this crime as the links which I have added were addressed to different articles based on their content, and were essentaly 'different'. Now regarding conribution, I think different people can contribute different things based on their time and ability. I saw those link (not my links) as good counter argument resource so I shared them. I think such contribution no matter how small should be encourged, and not to be preempted. What I see often on wikipedia is that new commers are usually harassed to an extent that they get immediately discourged and try not to return or add anything. Its not a debate and I certainly don't want to make it one. regards --Linxengine 05:24, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
Unfortunately, doing so violates WP:SPAM, and even if they are relevant, does not help Wikipedia at all and is considered advertising/promotion. If such contribution is encouraged, Wikipedia would just turn into a place where articles include more external links than they do content, and we wouldn't be able to call Wikipedia an encyclopedia anymore. I'm not trying to harass you, in fact I am encouraging you to contribute. However, link spamming is not the correct way to go about it. Khoikhoi 05:33, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
Well I respect wikipedia policies and have a right to disagree to some. I am not going to argue as how its own policies or rules could be misused by the experienced users. I have already answered to your accusation, or in polite terms advice which is always abundent for new comers, regarding spamming which you have repeated now couple of times. I could not be accused of it becuase it was not. External links were addressed to different articles. Anyway, I have heared your advice and I don't want to make it a debate, as I have said earlier, becuase I simply don't want to hear the word spamming again. I hope you excuse me on this and leave me in peace. Thanks --Linxengine 05:56, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
