Who is Lindsay Gorrie? I am a person who likes to know. Simple really.

I spent my school years trying not to learn and have spent my time ever since leaving school doing the opposite. My employment since 1976 has been in Information Technology, though that is not my passion. My hobby has been communications, of the two-way radio variety. My passion has been two fold since 1993: fire fighting and teaching about fire, both fire fighting and fire safety. This passion is due entirely to discovering by accident the volunteer fire fighting organisation in my home state, the New South Wales Rural Fire Service.

I have had one wife, with whom I am still, and with whom I have three children; though of course the word child is no longer valid. They are either adults or damned near.

I am currently the Senior Deputy Captain in our local volunteer fire brigade - the equivalent to 1st Lieutenant in some organisations. My wife is a Deputy Captain and Equipment Officer; all of my offspring are fire fighters. Emergency call outs get busy at my house.

I have been a Minister of religion since 1996 and have an honorary Doctor of Divinity awarded in 2005. I love science, philosophy, scientific fiction, fantasy, spy mysteries and war stories involving modern aircraft. I have a knack for mathematics and patterns.

Since 1976 I have been a DJ, sound-and-light technician, electronics technician, computer technician, video producer, security officer (armed, unarmed, plain clothes) packing line worker for Kellogg's, wine waiter, bar person, silver service waiter, IT manager, IT contractor, web site developer, database developer, cub scout leader and general dog’s-body. Most of that was secondary work to my main job - Information Technology and Telecommunications. I like to keep busy.

My blog (everyone has one now, right?) is here.

See ya round.
