What is this geographical feature called in places outside Scotland?--h i s ^{s p a c e} _{r e s e a r c h} 23:16, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

Either 'waterfall' or 'falls' as in a series of waterfalls or possibly the 'pool of the waterfall'. I am not sure the description in the current version is entirely valid, but an unusual feature of its usage is that the usually precedes the word as in "the Linn of Dee". Typically 'Gorge' is used outside Scotland - but usually used to describe something much larger than a Linn which it typically less than hundreds of feet long and dozens wide. If you search Wikipedia for gorge - you'll get redirected to Canyon - and I didn't want to get into a 'when is a Linn-a-Linn' or a 'gorge-a-gorge' discussion since 'Linn' isn't really the same as gorge - since it's typically short and narrow - and yes - it is typically incorporated into the name 'Linn Of Dee', 'Linn of Quoich', 'Linn of Corriemulzie' etc. etc. WikiWriter (talk) 09:18, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
