Talk:Lime

Query - should the Lime page be a crosslink page sending users to Lime (cooking) and Lime (industrial)? ATM Lime the plant is on this page and another entry needs to be created for Lime the chemical (calcium carbonate).

This is now done. Does anyone know what type of lime Aphrodite is associated with? ( 13:33 5 Jul 2003 (UTC)
No, but I'd guess it's the Tilia. The citrus fruit was unknown to the Ancient Greeks. --Angr/tɔk tə mi 13:21, 24 September 2005 (UTC)
That's correct - it is the tree. --138.38.32.84 18:03, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

With regards to the pH value of lime, this is rather confusing as lime as a fruit is sourish (hence lower pH value), whereas lime as a agricultural tool is alkaline (higher pH value). Could anyone kindly highlight the history behind why two different substances having different pH value can share the same name? I was considering that a small kid, overhearing his or her parents mentioning that they should add lime to neutralise the acidity in their garden would take lime as fruit and start squeezing the lime juice into the garden. This would really worsen the soil acidity. :)
