Limburgian Beer

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dutch province of Limburg traditionally has an authentic beer culture. The Limburgian Province nowadays contains the breweries of Brand, Lindeboom, Gulpener, Hertog Jan, Wieckse Witte, Leeuw Bier, Alfa Bier, Christoffel bier, De Zevende Hemel and a vast number of smaller traditional breweries.

The largest of these breweries is Brand,Brand nowadays, is a part of Heineken NV. Most of the Limburgian people feel that is a real shame because Brand lost its identity. And plenty of its outspoken taste as well, for that matter.

One of the most famous Limburgian beers is Hertog Jan (or in English Duke John). This is a nice beer with just a litle bit of bitter hops. The Hertog Jan brewery is situated in the Limburgian village Arcen . Also both Alfa and Gulpener are both highly regarded for its purity and quality.

Most of these breweries also produce beers other than the traditional lager, in the tasty tradition of the vast array of German and Belgian beers.
