Lilly Kelly Napangardi

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lilly Kelly Napangardi (born c.1948) is a painter born in the Haast Bluff region of the Northern Territory.

Napangardi's paintings of country, especially the sand hills around Mt Liebig, depict a mysterious and elemental landscape where features such as rock holes and even mountain ranges seem to appear and disappear with the changing winds and blowing sands. Water marks this land, as the run-off from the rains makes a pattern of lines and striations down the surface of the sand hills. It is the ephemeral nature of the drifting, changing country that is Napangardi's key subject.
