Light Aid Detachment
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A Light Aid Detachment is a subunit Detachment of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers or Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. These subunits provide dedicated logistical support to specific field units of the British Army or Canadian Army e.g. Armour, Infantry, Signals, Artillery et al. REME and RCEME were created in February 1944 out of the Royal Army Ordnance Corps and Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps who previously handled functions such as the repair of weapons, optics and vehicles.[1] LADs were divisions of larger units known as Workshops.[2]
