Lifeboat economics

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lifeboat Economics refers to a situation in which there is a scarcity of resources and there is a risk of survival. The idea is that a group of people are on a lifeboat with scarce survival supplies. Disregarding morality, one may try to limit (i.e. remove) the other people on the lifeboat in order to protect their own survival. Morality complicates the issue of which choice a person will make: Remove other passengers to protect themselves, or risk their own survival to help others.
