The Liede is a little river that used to connect the Haarlemmermeer with the Spaarne, south of Spaarndam.
After the creation of land in the Haarlemmermeer the Liede became a side-river of the Ringvaart.
At Spaarndam the Liede becomes so wide that it really is a lake. It's called the Mooie Nel.
The Liede and Mooie Nel are nowadays important for recreational boat sailing.
