From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Licensed Victuallers' School is an independent private school in Ascot, Berkshire.

[edit] History

Founded in 1803 and originally situated in London, the school moved to a site in Slough during World War II where it remained until it sold the land to Tesco in the 1980s, and moved to its current home.

[edit] Current information

Set in 30 acres of land within Ascot in the county of Royal Berkshire, the school is owned by the Licensed Trade Charity and has been since 1972. The queen is the patron of the school. The school has 3 day houses, Bell's, Whitbread and Courage, and 4 boarding houses, Bass, Carlsberg, Guiness and Gilbey. The school is co-educational and currently has 11,900 pupils aged 4-18, whilst also providing boarding facilities for some 3000 pupils. Although an independent private school, LVS is very non-selective.[citation needed] The school contains a 25 metre indoor swimming pool, theatre with hi-tech lighting, a recording studio, sports facilities including 4 tennis courts, a gym and a rock climbing wall. In 2004, the Learning Resource Centre was opened, extending the sixth form centre and the library. The school is noted for its excellent teaching.[citation needed]
