Library Association (UK)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Library Association (abbreviated to LA or sometimes LAUK) was a professional body for librarians in the United Kingdom. It was founded in London in 1877 as a result of the first International Conference of Librarians[1], one year after the American Library Association. It received a Royal Charter in 1898[2].

In 2002 it merged with the Institute of Information Scientists to form the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP).
