Liberty Bank is headquartered in the heart of downtown Middletown, Connecticut but is located all around Middlesex County and at shoreline locations. Liberty Bank is the oldest mutual bank in the state of Connecticut.

Liberty Bank opened in 1825 in Middletown, as Middletown Savings Bank. On the first day that the bank opened, $970.75 was accepted as deposits and stored in a vault that is on display at Yale University. Middletown Savings Bank reached its $1 million deposit in 1852 and reached its $10 million deposit in 1912.
Middletown Savings Bank moved twice and found its new headquarters in 1929, on the corner of Main and Court Streets, which is still Liberty Bank's headquarters today.
In 1975, Middletown Savings Bank changed its name to the Liberty Bank for Savings. A decision in 1990 changed Liberty Bank for Savings to Liberty Bank.
