[edit] Background
Libertas Academica, referred to as "LA", is a publisher of open access ("OA") scientific, technical and medical journals. It is privately funded and was founded specifically to publish OA journals. It was established in late 2004 with the launch of two journals, Evolutionary Bioinformatics and Cancer Informatics. 2006 and 2007 saw the development of an additional set of journals.
[edit] Journals and journal development
A full current list of journals published by LA is available from the publisher's home page [2]
LA is running an extensive journal development program for the remainder of 2008 with the goal of having 150 journals in production by 2009. In 2009 the publisher's focus will move to consolidation of the existing journals and a smaller on-going development program.
As they become eligible indexing on DOAJ, Pubmed and MEDLINE is sought for all journals, as is archiving in PubMed Central. Indexing by other services is also sought as appropriate.
[edit] Submission and monitoring of manuscripts through My LA
Submissions are accepted for journals' general annual issues at anytime. Many journals also contain special issues with advertised submission deadlines. Authors can monitor the status of their submissions through LA's author interface, My LA. Peer review generally takes two weeks although it can vary between one and three weeks.
[edit] Green and Gold OA publisher
SHERPA RoMEO has identified LA as a Green OA publisher. [3] This means that authors are permitted to archive their work prior to and after publication. LA is also a gold OA publisher because all articles are freely available online immediately upon publication.
