Land Forces 1st Brigade consists of infantry, armored-mechanized, artillery and Air Force artillery units, engineering and signal units.

Land Forces 1st Brigade was formed on 1 July 2006 by merging the Novi Sad corps units and parts of other SAF units, i.e. 1st Armored Brigade and two makeshift engineering battalions (402. and 485. battalion). The units continue the tradition of 1st Vojvodina NOU Brigade, formed in the village of Brdjani on Majevica mountain on 10 April 1943.

As of 26 March 2007 1st Brigade has been part of LF Command.

The purpose and tasks of 1st LF Brigade stem from tasks and purpose of SAF defined in the Strategic Defense Review.

  • building and maintaining the ordered level of combat readiness.
  • preparing and deploying units and soldiers for securing the administrative line towards Kosovo and Metohija within the Ground Security Zone in the south of Serbia.
  • training Commands, units and soldiers for completing specific tasks.
  • preparing and deploying units for providing assistance to civil authorities in addressing consequences of possible natural disasters and catastrophes.
