Levél is a village in Győr-Moson-Sopron county, Hungary.

[edit] Geography
Levél is in the northwest corner of Hungary, along the M1 motorway, between Mosonmagyaróvár and Hegyeshalom. It was a passenger traffic and railway stopping-place. With a bicycle one can connect to the international bicycle road to Hegyeshalom and Rajka frontier station.

The village Kalthostan was first mentioned in Germany in 1410. The first Hungarian name appears in a tax registration in 1532. The Turkish beslege depopulated the village in 1529. In 1570 emperor Miksa the I. colonized here the Württenberg Saxons. The French occupation in 1809 blame heavy burdens to the population. In 1926 starts the big electrification of the village.
The farmers planted fruit gardens and the corn production was prospering. In the second World War in consequence to the requisitions on German and the Russian soldiers people pillaged the village and they lifted cattles. After the war the greatest part of German populatiuon was deported. In the sixties seventies and eighties, the village started do develop again and this development continued in the nineties also.

The permanent population in the last decades shows a very small expansion. 50-60% of the population is incapable of sustaining oneself from this 20% is the rate of unemployed.
Regarding school qualification: With general school dispose 25%, workman 30%, secondary school qualification 22% and higher education qualification 6% of the population.
Regarding employment: 49% of the population work in industry, 6.5% in agriculture, 15% in commerce and catering trade unemployed rate in 5%. A great level goes to work to Mosonmagyaróvár. (1998)

The infrastructural provision of the village is good. Beside the building of the water conduit system in 1997, the waste-pipe system development will 1997 started. The solid waste collection and the storage of this is solved. The telephone furnishing is 98% resolved. The village is disposed to cable-television system and monthly appears the local newspaper.
