Les Misérables (Netherlands)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In 1991 (February 28) Les Misérables played for the first time in the Netherlands. First in Koninklijk Theater Carré (Royal Carré theatre), Amsterdam, until the production moved in October 1991, to Fortis Circustheater (Fortis Circus theatre) in Scheveningen. Then, many actors had a chance to prove themselves as musical players, because this musical was the first large-scale musical produced in the Netherlands. So, many of them, who played in the first Dutch production of Les Misérables got a golden career as a musical star. The first version was played from 1991 to 1992. After this first version, in 2008 came a second version with a new cast. The try-outs began on 1 April and the première was on 20 April in Nieuwe Luxor Theater (New Luxor Theatre) in Rotterdam. The second version will play to the end of the year of 2008. This production is the first international production to use Stephen Metcalfe's re-orchestrations. In the future these re-orchestrations will be used all over the world. Both versions were produced by Joop van den Ende.
