Leicester Bike Park
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Leicester Bike Park is a bike parking facility in The City of Leicester, Great Britain.
It was developed as the result of research into public attitudes to cycling, carried out by Environ in the 1990s. These studies showed that in addition to the need for safe cycle routes, the lack of secure bike parking and changing facilities for commuters were barriers preventing people from cycling.
The Bike Park is managed as a partnership between Leicester City Council, Environ and Webster’s Cycles. It is based in Leicester Town Hall. Facilities include changing and shower areas as well as secure lockers.
Since opening in March 1997 it has provided secure bike parking for more than 13,000 bikes each year.
The Bike Park was opened by Groundwork Leicester & Leicstershire (GWLL) formerly known as Environ in March 1997 and has provided secure bike parking for more than 13,000 bikes each year since. It is managed as a partnership between GWLL and Webster's Trading and supported by Leicester City Council.
The Bike Park is based in Leicester's Town Hall in the centre of the city, perfectly placed for Leicester's main shopping areas and many of the centre's major businesses.
The Bike Park has space for 120 bikes and is Britain's largest secure bike parking facility. It provides showers, changing facilities and lockers for users. There is a shop selling bikes, cycle equipment and clothing.
It offers cycle and cycle trailer hire from the beginning of April to the end of August and has a repair facility that allows people to have their bikes fixed while they are at work or shopping. It also provides information on cycling and aims to encourage more people to cycle into the city and to remove some of the barriers that prevent people doing so.

The Bike Park is Leicester's only stockist of Brompton foldaway bikes. Perfect for commuters, these can be stored as hand luggage on trains and reassembled in less than a minute. With three gears, they are the perfect vehicle to get from train to town.
