[edit] Name of Leucas
Not Lefkada, but Leucada (in modern Greek) and Leucas (in ancient Greek).
In Greek, leucus = white, Leuce (or leucas) = white (femine)

As these are both transliterations, neither can be considered incorrect. The first is more phonetic (though the "d" (delta) in Modern Greek has the sound of voiced "th" in English (as in "then"). "Eu" (epsilon upsilon) is pronounced "ef" before a voiceless consonant (as in this case), "ev" otherwise. "K" or "c" stands for Greek "kappa," from which the letter "k" originates. As far as correspondence of letters between the alphabets is concerned, the most "accurate" transliteration would be "Leukada."

Nidri is not a island but a tourist resort town on the south east coast of Lefkada and the ancient findings were indeed 1.5 km outside Nidri. Nevertheless it is not historically established as the whereabouts of the ancient Ithaki town, according to other theories it could even be located on the island of Meganisi east of the Nidri bay next to the Onasis family's island of Scorpios. There is no island located on the south west side of Lefkada.
[edit] Lefkada Island vs. Lefkada Prefecture
I think that we should distinguish between the two. They are not the same; the prefecture includes the municipality/communities of Meganisi, Kalamos, and Kastos, which are on separate islands. Backspace 10:51, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
